During the very disappointing 2 hour Kitchen Nightmares "premiere" - we quit watching and now she's sleeping.
Time for Halloween-era movie fest - Halloween 2007 style.
It starts with an awful double feature - I had seen the original back in the day, but the double feature included the sequel as well...
Troll the first isn't too bad, a silly horror comedy with ideas too big for the small budget - an eclectic cast ranging from Michael Moriarty to Gary "WKRP" Sandy keeps it interesting.
Grade: C+
But Troll 2 is something else altogether, like the bastard Euro version of a generic US horror flick, it's Manos bad, and not even about Trolls. The word "NILBOG" figures prominently.
Grade: F
Wow...checking in on 10/11/08...felt like getting the Halloween 07 done...
Black Moon (1975) - Bee-zarre Louis Malle sci-fi tinged mindfuck, described accurately as an Alice in Wonderland-type allegory...I think. Striking images and a general tone of dread are the most memorable takeaways I took.
Grade: B+
Mirage (1965) - A fun 60s thriller from some of the same gang behind the much superior Charade. Here, Gregory Peck has the ol' amnesia bug, he and Diane Baker are OK, but no Cary and Audrey. Walter Matthau returns from the earlier film, lovably sleazy as ever, plus George Kennedy and director Edward Dmytryk.
Grade: B
Checking back in on 10/29/08...not much time for Halloween '07 now...but the Video Hut closes on Saturday...lousy service killed the flagship store, or at least hastened its 25-year run to an early close.
RIP Video Hut
