Unexpectedly, Skip Carey, longtime announcer for the Atlanta Braves, passed away in his sleep on Sunday. I hope he watched the Braves win that day, News reports indicated he was taking a nap and never woke up. UPDATE: His wife clarified that he died in the backyard, feeding the birds.
Still a nice way to go. And since TBS left the Braves business piece by agonizing piece the last few years, we hadn't had many opportunities to listen to him. But we'll always have Sid's slide...and the year we won it all, 1995.
From Mark Bradley's remembrance in the AJC:
The audience doesn’t mind if you’re a homer — truth to tell, Skip wasn’t much of one — but it hates a house man. Skip was the antithesis of that. He was the irreverent David Letterman when the real Letterman was still doing the weather back in Indianapolis. He was laugh-out-loud funny without ever once laughing at his own joke.
RIP Skip
