Faster Moviecat Kill Kill! Part 2

On a roll now. The short and sweet section now:

Psyche 59 (1964) - Oddity with an international cast and crisp B&W photography. Kind of a Gaslight-type thing, with modern (for 64) psychology as the gimmick. Looks like a William Castle thing at times, which makes Patricia Neal's starring role here all the stranger.
Grade: B-

The Lookout (2007) - One of the great unproduced screenplays makes it with the writer at the helm. A rarity to be sure, but Scott Frank finally got it done, with a brilliant actor in the lead (Joseph Gordon-Levitt, maybe the only one of his generation who could handle this). A small town tragedy that slowly builds to a classic noir set-up and a blood-soaked finale. Lovely character details and a deliberate pace might turn some off - but it pays off in the end.
Grade: A-

The Girl in the Black Stockings
(1957) - Crazy noir trash, with Anne Bancroft, Lex Barker, Mamie Van Doren and Marie Windsor in one wild ride. With that cast, you must watch if if it's bad for you.
Grade: C+

Cross of Iron
(1978) - A LIST MOVIE!! And what a crazy fucking thing this is - hatched by Bruce Lee and James Coburn, this has a poorly cast blonde dude (Jeff Cooper I think) in the lead and with someone like Coburn maybe it could have worked better, because Coop is kinda funny whenever he opens his mouth. Eli Wallach certainly gives it his all (spoiler alert).
Grade: C+

300 (2007) - Flashy and kinda stupid, that might be an honest depiction of the Frank Miller source material (I shudder at the looming Spirit) - I never read the book but this is pretty silly jazz, with lizard creature DarkSkinnedBaddies and lots of jittery slo-mo action. Eye-popping at first, gets tedious by the close.
Grade: C
